After Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth announced the public would be able to watch a firing squad execute Fort Hood mass killer Nidal Hasan, the Pentagon got specific, saying the execution would be live-streamed. Hassan’s planned, public execution is scheduled for December 3rd at 1pm, on the same day of the week and the same time Hasan killed 13 and wounded 30 others back in 2009. Hasan was wounded in the attack and is paralyzed, and there are many questions about the legality and morality of a public execution. The execution by firing squad would be the first of its kind carried out by the Army since World War II. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Over the past year, Michigan police say the violent deaths of five white men along a popular river trail appear to be connected. Lansing’s police chief acknowledged that the city may have a serial killer on its hands and have asked for help from the community, setting up a tip line. Four of the victims were brutally beaten in the head, suffering facial injuries, all eventually dying from their injuries in the hospital. One of the men was stabbed to death, and police have made an arrest in that case, but aren’t sure if the person they have in custody is actually the person responsible for this series of brutal murders. A Texas man was executed after a nearly two hour delay on Wednesday using the exact same, single dose method of pentobarbital that Tennessee administered to Christa Pike. The outcome was very different for 46-year-old Jamaal Howard, who was pronounced dead within 15 minutes. Howard apologized to his victim’s family in his final words, after being convicted in the shooting death of convenience store worker Vickie Swartout back in 2000. In a press conference following an emergency hearing called by the attorneys of Christa Pike, we learned more details about how and when Pike regained consciousness. Her attorneys say they believed Pike was brain dead Monday evening and was going to be taken off life support Tuesday, when she suddenly woke up and asked, “Where am I? And who are you?” To the medical staff. A judge ruled in favor of Pike’s attorneys, ordering the state to preserve ANY and ALL evidence surrounding the botched execution. Three friends of Nolan Wells, the college student who went missing during a Fourth of July celebration in Mississippi, have sued NFL Hall of Famer Terrell Owens for defamation. Owens reposted a video, with pictures of three boys’ faces, accusing them of murdering Wells and adding the caption “ARREST THEM IMMEDIATELY!!” Owens post came after a grand jury did not recommend any criminal charges in Wells’ death. Lawyers for the friends say they also intend to file several more defamation claims, among them, the Rev. Al Sharpton and “The View” co-host Sunny Hostin for comments they made discussing Wells' death. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

New Jersey police made a horrific discovery inside a multimillion dollar mansion: three members of the same family, all fatally shot. But police now believe it was the father, 61-year-old insurance executive David Grodnick who shot and killed his 62-year-old wife, Lora and their 24-year-old daughter, Sloane before turning the gun on himself. We discuss the details of this case, one that follows a disturbing trend this year, where seemingly successful, educated men murder their entire families before killing themselves, with little to no explanation. After nearly a week of being unconscious and on a ventilator following Tennessee’s botched execution attempt, Christa Pike is conscious and speaking according to her attorneys. They say Pike is the only known person to have survived two lethal doses of pentobarbital, but her long term prognosis remains unclear. Later today, Pike’s attorneys will be back in court, asking for evidence to be preserved in the case, as well as transparency into what went wrong. Meantime, Pike’s victim’s mom has reacted to the news that her daughter’s killer is awake, saying she “had a feeling” she would survive. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Halle Berry has filed an emergency request, asking the court to restore her 50/50 custody arrangement with her ex-husband Olivier Martinez regarding their 13-year-old son Maceo. Berry gives a very different account of what happened between her and Maceo on September 26th, saying she would never hurt her son. Martinez claimed Berry physically abused Maceo and placed him in a chokehold, which led a judge to issue a temporary restraining order against the Oscar winning actress. Berry also goes into detail what she claims are examples of Martinez’s negative influence over her son designed to damage her relationship with Maceo. This is a frightening story to wake up to, and there aren’t a lot of reassuring answers right now. The U.S. State Department and the CDC say they are both closely monitoring a situation in Siberia, after the suspicious death of a 28-year-old Russian lab researcher who was studying the pneumonic plague. She officially died of pneumonia of an “unknown” origin, but testing is underway with 200 of her colleagues under medical observations with at least 5 facilities under quarantine. The pneumonic plague is a rare and deadly lung infection that is passed from human to human and is considered the most dangerous form of the disease. President Trump was defending the war with Iran and the resulting higher gas and energy prices with a poorly worded comment that seemed to suggest he’d be fine with Iran taking out Los Angeles and San Diego. Trump was trying to say that the higher prices Americans are paying are a small price to pay, rather than having Iran take out an American city. The problem was, the way he stated it sounded like he was inciting Iran to take them out and that has elicited several strongly worded reactions from mayors, and the California governor, saying Trump actively threatened and encouraged attacks on American lives. It was a heartbreaking and dramatic afternoon in court as Caleb Flynn heard directly from his two young daughters who wrote letters to him read aloud by his wife, Ashley’s family members. Alyssa and Ava Flynn told their father how much pain he’s caused them and begged him to tell the truth about killing their mother. Other members of Ashely’s family spoke directly to Flynn, including her own parents who told their former son-in-law that they forgive him. Flynn read a letter to his daughters, family members and Ashley’s family apologizing for his decisions and hateful words, but insisting that he did not kill his wife. The judge gave him stern words, and then, the maximum sentence possible: life without parole. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

The headlines are brutal for Tom Cruise’s new movie ‘Digger’ with major news outlets saying the film is set to lose $150 million dollars after opening to a shocking $8 million dollar debut. The satirical black comedy actually received a decent audience score on Rotten Tomatoes, with fans giving it a 71%, but critics calling it everything from an “unintentionally bad movie” to “insufferably sanctimonious." Cruise took to social media over the weekend to defend the film that he says he was proud and honored to help create. We went to the theaters expecting the worst, and were shocked…. At how much we loved it, and its exceptionally talented cast. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Over the weekend, President Trump gave out Republican Senator Tom Cotton’s personal cell phone number, asking Arkansans to pressure Cotton to support “The Sunshine Protection Act.” Trump wants Cotton, who he says is holding up the bill because of his “ego” to support the measure passed by the House that would make Daylight Saving Time permanent. Time is running out for the President, who wants to stop the clocks from falling back on November 1, as recent polls show Americans split on how they want the hands of time to land. As Christa Pike remains hospitalized, unconscious, on a ventilator in critical condition after a failed execution attempt, the man in charge of Tennessee prisons has announced his resignation. Governor Bill Lee did not directly reference the situation with Pike, or with this spring’s botched execution of Tony Carruthers, but said Department of Correction Commissioner Frank Strada stepping aside is "in the best interest of Tennesseans as the independent review moves forward." Strada was most recently the Deputy Director of the Arizona Department of Corrections where he last oversaw three troubled lethal injections that all involved personnel not being able to find the inmates’ veins. The attorneys for 50-year-old Christa Pike filed an emergency order to preserve all evidence from her botched execution attempt on Wednesday night. Pike’s attorneys detail her conditions, saying she is intubated, unconscious and on a ventilator with her arms swollen, blistered and burned. The filing alleges the medical team improperly placed the IV and both lethal doses of pentobarbital went into her body, not her veins, calling their actions “reckless” and “incompetent.” See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Residents are demanding answers after a county in Florida discovered multiple Flock cameras that were not permitted, and have no known owner. It’s also unclear whether those cameras are actively collecting data or who can access it. Flock cameras have drawn recent scrutiny across the country over police misuse and privacy concerns, with many municipalities removing them and ending their surveillance. Governor Kathy Hochul held a brief, joint press conference with New York Attorney General Letitia James. Governor Hochul said the Cornell rape accuser was 'failed' by the people who were obligated to protect her, namely the police and the District Attorney. Hochul issued an executive order appointing James as special prosecutor, saying newly released information raises serious questions about the investigation. The alleged victim went to campus police three weeks after she says seven members of the Chi Phi fraternity drugged and raped her back in 2024. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Halle Berry is being accused of abusing her 12-year-old son Maceo by her ex-husband, actor Olivier Martinez. Martinez was granted a temporary restraining order against the Oscar winning actress and a judge has restricted Berry’s visitation with Maceo. Martinez alleges last week Berry “physically abused our son Maceo, by jumping on him, putting her hands around his neck and choking him.” Martinez is asking for sole custody, while Berry’s attorney fired back with a statement, saying her ex-husband’s claims are “entirely meritless and deliberately misleading.” See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

It took former Cornell University student “Jane Doe” filing a lawsuit, and outrage on social media, for prosectors to “reopen” the investigation into her allegations that 7 members of the Chi Phi fraternity drugged and gang raped her back in 2024. The District Attorney claims he never received the full transcript of Jane Doe’s interview with campus police, and says this new lawsuit makes claims that were not made during the initial investigation. There is a lot of finger pointing going on, and a lot of questions being asked, as Jane Does’ full transcript of what she says happened that night have been released. Today marks the 41st anniversary of a month created to bring awareness and save lives for millions of women around the world. October 1st is the beginning of Breast Cancer Awareness month and to mark that day 13 years ago, Amy had a mammogram on live national television to remind women to make their own potentially life saving appointments. It was that scan that ultimately led to a stage 2 breast cancer at the age of 40. Today, the American Cancer Society wants women and men to know their risks, know the warning signs and help provide the information and resources available. 1 in 8 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime, but the earlier its detected, the better chance of surviving it. Quick and brave actions by the captain of Flydubai flight 1073 and several of its passengers averted a deadly disaster, saving the lives of more than 170 people on board a flight headed from Dubai to Tel Aviv on Wednesday. The investigation is ongoing, but the details of what happened mid-air are nothing short of remarkable. A co-pilot who has now been detained, reportedly began stabbing the captain in an attempt to crash the plane. While being attacked, the captain was able to open the cockpit door, allowing passengers to rush in, neutralize the co-pilot and stabilize the plane that had dropped more than 17 thousand feet in less than two minutes. While it’s unclear whether this was an orchestrated terror attack, it is clear that the actions of a few, saved the lives of everyone on board. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Carter was finally freed after DNA from the crime scene excluded him as a suspect. Carter was finally granted a new trial last year after the Utah Supreme Court ruled the two witnesses who testified against him recanted their stories, revealing that police and a prosecutor gave them cash and gifts to point the finger at Carter. NBC news has sourced a remarkable story describing what life is like for the billionaire music mogul behind bars. Multiple inmates have described a life Sean “Diddy” Combs has curated in prison, spending thousands of dollars a month for men to make his bed, cook his food, clean his clothes and give him massages. They also have photos and videos showing Diddy on a phone - which is not permitted - and say Diddy has premium alcohol that he sometimes shares with a tight circle of inmates on the weekends. Diddy’s reps have already responded to the allegations, but didn’t necessarily deny them. It’s unclear if these reports will have any impact on his latest release date of January 2028. In a shocking development, a federal appeals court has stepped in and stopped the execution of 50-year-old Christa Pike. Pike would’ve been the first woman in more than 200 years executed by the state of Tennessee, and she had already lost her appeal to the Supreme Court. Governor Bill Lee even announced earlier this week that he would not offer Pike clemency. The federal court wants to review whether Pike’s allegations of childhood sexual abuse and rape were fully considered at her sentencing. The mother of Pike’s victim, Colleen Slemmer had raised money to travel to Nashville to attend Pike’s execution, and has been publicly advocating for her execution for the past three decades. 50-year-old Christa Pike is scheduled to become the first woman executed in Tennessee since 1819. Pike was convicted of the torture and murder of an alleged romantic rival when she was 18-years-old. She committed her crime with her then 17-year-old boyfriend, and because of his age he was given a life sentence, while Pike was sentenced to death. There have been dozens of women’s advocacy groups trying to halt her execution based on her extensive sexual abuse and mental health history. At this point, all of Pike’s appeals have been exhausted, and the Governor of Tennessee has already made his decision not to intervene. The mother of Pike’s victim, Colleen Slemmer, plans to attend, saying she’s been waiting for this day for more than 30 years. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

It took the jury less than three hours to convict 40-year-old former American Idol Contestant Caleb Flynn for the murder of his wife, Ashley, last February. During closing arguments the prosecution reminded the jury of the overwhelming evidence against Flynn, including his damning text messages about wanting to kill his wife. The defense spent nearly an hour trying to convince the jury there was reasonable doubt because no physical evidence connected Flynn to the murder.
